We have just completed the first revival at Mthimba Sports Field. As word of what was happening spread, the attendance grew to nearly 400 people. More importantly, many souls came to Christ for the first time and many were healed. Below is a summary of days 3 and 4 along with Sunday’s service in Salubinza.
Day 3 – February 7
Friday night from 1 Samuel 16:1: Do not grieve over the sinful pleasures the Lord is leading you from but “fill your horn with oil and go.” Run in the power of the Holy Spirit toward the better future God has prepared for you. We tackled some difficult social issues in this meeting including sex outside of marriage and alcohol abuse. It was a joy to see so many young people come to the altar.
We had some technical challenges at this service. There was the load shedding power outage that has hit every evening but we lost power again mid-sermon. Everybody stayed on track until the issue was resolved and the end result was a sweet move of the Holy Spirit.
Note: Load shedding is an intentional power outage by the power company to offset increased demands on a power grid that is not capable of handling it. We have been seeing load shedding every morning from 5-7AM and every evening from 7-9PM
Day 4 – February 8
This was the final night of the Mthimba revival. I spoke from 2 Kings 3:16-18 on digging ditches in faith. Obedience to God’s commands positions us to receive His blessing.
Sunday service in Salubinza – February 9
This church was where I started my African ministry. We spent some time reminiscing about the first outreach we did together on the grounds of what would become the new church building. The message for the morning was on understanding hope. I’ve heard may people say that their situation or your situation could be fixed if you only had more faith. But what if the problem wasn’t a lack of faith but a lack of hope. Past disappointments discourage our ability to hope for something different than what we have today. But our hope is grounded in the fact that Jesus Christ makes dead things live. In the resurrection, Jesus has become the firstfruit of the resurrection and the foundation of our hope in the goodness and faithfulness of God.
